A feature of stair Churchyard is the practice by several families of puting the names of the deceased on individual brick-sized stones, this can be seen with No’s 1, the Inglis family; No 27 five daughters of Thomas Anderson, a sheriff substitute of Ayrshire; and No 117 John Cunningham Montgomerie and family. There is also a plaque commemorating the two sons of Lord and Lady Strathclyde (No 101) - William B G Galbraith, Lieutenant R N killed in action during the Second World War and the Hon. Sir Thomas G D Galbraith, K.B.E., M.P. A large stone slab with a cross sits on the ground beside it. The wife and family of Major-General Alex Stewart of Afton, Stair (No 22) lie to the side of the church itself.
